The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has asked President Bola Tinubu’s government to investigate and apprehend the alleged terrorists who attacked its presidential candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, in Yola, Adamawa State.

The call was made by the PDP National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba, in an Abuja statement.

According to Ologunagba, the PDP is concerned about the reported failed terrorist attack on Abubakar and other strategic areas in Yola, Adamawa.

He said that by the confession of the arrested assailants, the plot had the “pawmarks of a sponsored attempt on the life of Abubakar.”
“Our party charges the Inspector-General of Police, Olukayode Egbetokun, to take the lead provided by the confession of the assailants to track down their sponsors and bring them to book in the interest of the security, unity, and wellbeing of our nation.

“We also urge the Federal Government to ensure that the perpetrators of the dastardly act and their sponsors are brought to book.
“This particular investigation is important to the country because of the scope and dimension of the attempted attack.”

Ologunagba urged security agencies to tighten security surrounding Abubakar and his family during this vital period in Nigeria’s democratic process.

He praised the attentive Yola residents and security services for their efforts in foiling the attempt.

Ologunagba encouraged Nigerians to be calm as officials launch an investigation to find those responsible for the nefarious plot.

On Sunday, police in Adamawa arrested four persons suspected of being Boko Haram militants in connection with an alleged conspiracy to attack Abubakar’s residence.
