Early on Tuesday, residents in the Mile 2 neighborhood of Lagos State blocked the road, causing chaos and obstructing the free flow of traffic.

It was discovered that at least two people were killed as a result of an altercation in the state involving tanker drivers, touts, and the Lagos State Task Force.

An 18-second video published by @Gidi_Traffic on X (previously Twitter) claimed that citizens were blocking the Mile 2 by burning tyres on the road. The video also included a voice telling commuters to avoid the area.

In response to the video going viral, Benjamin Hundeyin, the Lagos State Command Spokesperson for the Nigerian Police, announced that a patrol team from the Command was already on the spot to bring things back to normal.

“That claim cannot be confirmed yet. Information is still sketchy. However, I can confirm that police patrol teams have arrived at the scene, obstacles are being cleared and the free flow of traffic picking up again. Further updates to follow,” he said.

“Mile 2 is on fire, both the task force, tanker drivers, and touts are fighting seriously. I don’t know what caused the fight but I am just hiding at Fagbems Filling station at Mile 2 and watching.

“I am going to work but I am stranded as they barricade the whole of Mile 2 that nobody will pass”, a resident was also quoted as saying.
